Dermal fillers are products that are injected just under the skin to fill lines, folds and wrinkles that appear as we age.
What areas can be treated with dermal fillers?
We typically fill and soften lines and folds on the face, around the mouth, lips and eyes.
Other areas of the body such as the hands and décolletage can be treated to restore volume and rejuvenate the skin from within.
What are dermal fillers made of?
With so many dermal fillers on the market they can be made of a variety of ingredients. All of our dermal fillers are comprised of a synthetic form of Hyaluronic Acid. Hyaluronic acid is found in humans and animals and is in abundance in a plump youthful face but decreases as we age. Dermal fillers that contain Hyaluronic acid have extremely low instances of allergic reaction and can be dissolved if required.
Can you treat my lips?
Yes, the lips can be enhanced and shaped using dermal fillers. With a little extra volume it is possible to restore ageing lips or give symmetry. Vertical lip lines, referred to as ‘smokers lines’, around the lips can also be treated.
How do dermal fillers work?
Quite simply dermal fillers are placed underneath areas of the face and body that have lost volume or where there are visible wrinkles and folds. They lift the skin reducing the appearance of the wrinkle restoring are more youthful, rested appearance.
Will dermal fillers completely get rid of my lines?
There are varying depths of lines and wrinkles and as such there are varying thicknesses of filler. Your practitioner will be able to assess which filler will be most suitable and how many syringes will be required to achieve a satisfactory result. Repeated treatments can very often achieve greater correction with longer lasting results.
How long will it last?
Generally most Hyaluronic acid fillers will last between 6-12 months. However there are some longer lasting dermal fillers that can last up to 18 months. Your practitioner will be able to advise you on which one is best suited to you.
What is Hyaluronic acid?
This is a naturally occurring substance found in humans and animals. It gives the skin its plumpness and as we age it decreases, contributing to the ageing process. It also attracts water so can be used to rejuvenate the skin and restore volume. Dermal fillers use a synthetic form of Hyaluronic acid with very low instances of allergic reaction.
How soon will I see the results?
You will instantly see a difference. There may be a little swelling and more so with lip enhancements but this will resolve within a few days.
Will the procedure hurt?
This is a little more uncomfortable than having Botox. However we can make it more comfortable by applying topical anesthetic before the procedure as well as dental blocks when treating the mouth and lips.
